Adobe Apollo is now in Beta
Adobe AIR, code name Apollo, is now in beta. What does AIR stand for you ask? Adobe Integrated Runtime.
Which means that this technology is one step closer to full support and release. There have been a ton of great web apps leveraging the Apollo runtime… excuse me the Adobe Integrated Runtime, like the ever addicting but amazing kuler app and my one of my personal favorites pixel perfect.
The ability to create desktop level apps and extend the brand beyond the browser really excites me a lot. I’ve always wanted to get into desktop development but most of my skill sets are in the web development arena.
I’ve also read that AIR will be tooling up with Google Gears to leveralge SQLite databases. Which for me opens up a ton of other possibilities using what I know to create installable apps. Having this new platform for development is definitly a breath of fresh AIR.
